The aria “It is Enough” from Mendelssohn’s Elijah is challenging for any bass-baritone, but my voice student Nic Sluss-Rodionov made it sound almost easy. It was an ideal vehicle for his large, rich voice- and he also had the musicality to sing it with exceptional expressiveness. This performance was from a 2009 concert at First United Methodist Church titled “Lift Thine Eyes: Celebrating the 200th Birthday of Felix Mendelssohn.
Today is Nic’s birthday. He is missed by all of us who knew him and loved him.
