Nothing says ‘I Love You” like Lysol

So this is how my time with Mr. Noble and Carthage ended- with a scrub brush in my hand!  Today was the day that Mr. Noble moved out of his Kenosha apartment, and I came over to help with the cleaning- which for those of you who know me is a little like Brittany Spears

Opera at the IHOP

In case you don’t frequent this particular fine dining establishment,  IHOP refers to the International House of Pancakes-  not my favorite place since I’m not a fan of pancakes, but they serve other stuff . . . and they’re open open 24 hours . . .  and they’re located about four blocks from our house.

Yesterday I took Mr. Noble out for lunch - a delicious lunch, as it turns out, at The Soup Depot.  It doesn’t sound fancy- and it isn’t! - but the is food homemade and tasty and also free of the preservatives to which he tends to be allergic. So it filled the bill, and it

Jared and Me

By |

My weight is down to the upper 220’s - which means that I have dropped over forty pounds since January.   (I started out at 271.)   I will take a picture of the scale when I get to the magic mark of 50, but today I feel like posting a picture of my good buddy Jared

Book Smart

I’m sorry to say that Memorial Day for Kathy and me had to be nothing more than a day off.  After the weekend we had, there was no other option.  But we did have a truly lovely supper with Kathy’s family- and the very best part of it all was afterwards when our niece Lorelai

Time to say Goodbye

This is not an amazing photograph by any means, but it certainly captures an amazing experience of mine.  For ’08 commencement, I was seated up on the platform with the bigwigs;  in fact,  I sat right next to President F. Gregory Campbell himself!  Note for future planning: Never seat two people named Gregory beside each

Still Nervous

By |

One of the most striking moments in the Mother’s Day Concert with the Carthage choirs was when Mr. Noble, while introducing the Rutter “Mass for the Children” confided to the audience that he was nervous - and then went on to say in the same breath that he was delighted to be nervous because that

Just a Little Dinner Party

By |

On the eve of commencement,  President Campbell hosted a dinner party in his home both to honor Mr. Noble  for the honorary doctorate which he will be receiving and to thank him for the year of service which he has given to Carthage and specifically to the Carthage Choir.   What was especially nice about this

Solid Bach

By |

I spent last night experiencing one of the finest masterworks ever created - the Mass in B minor by J.S. Bach.  It’s a big work and tremendously difficult and an ensemble has to be both ambitious and a bit crazy to undertake it, so it shows up quite infrequently on concert schedules. . .  and
