Triple Threat

By |

So Kathy and I are back from our latest New York City adventure, and it’s really hard to know where to begin - a remarkable night at the opera?  The two spectacular Broadway shows we saw? Our first time at beautiful and historic Carnegie Hall? Our first encounter with the gigantic and glorious Metropolitan Museum

Goodness Gracious

We’re back from NYC-  Actually, I’m back as I type this- but Kathy is still en route.  (I pick her and Trevor up from the airport in about an hour.)  I flew back early in order to play piano for the Carthage Choir’s homecoming concert, which was this afternoon at 3:00.  It was scarier than

Dollar Daze

This is Greg and Kathy Berg’s Fun Money Jar.  It sits up in our bedroom, and we regularly empty our pockets of spare change and dump it in there - and then every twelve years when my crazy schedule allows us to take a trip, we take the jar and its contents to the bank

Good Seats Still Available

When we ate supper with Marshall this past Saturday, he mentioned at one point how curiously relieved he was to read that I had actually had a bad day or two, since my blog seems so often to recount triumph upon triumph.  And I suppose he’s right; a quick perusal of my recent entries does

Phoning it in

My “succinct” entry on Easter Sunday was anything but succinct (surprise surprise) but even so I have one thing I have to add about the morning.   I talked about “Resurrection” and what a cherished Easter tradition that has become at Holy Communion.  Last year was the first Easter after Pastor Kris Capel left Holy Communion

Frosty goes into hibernation

We had a lot to accomplish today in anticipation of our upcoming trip to New York City- but one thing which Kathy said was absolutely essential was that our snowmen disappear. Most people I know don’t have snowmen still up the day after Easter-  but then again, most years we don’t have eleven inches of

Easter #20

By |

It’s 8:53 pm Easter evening, and I was up and out of bed at 4:00 this morning,  so I am running on fumes and will need to keep this succinct. (Which I suppose is good news for you.)   But it won’t be easy.  What a wonderful day this was, from top to bottom.  We had

Snow Mobile

In a wide-ranging day that included a Guys and Dolls rehearsal,  a high-def simulcast of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, and an Easter Vigil worship service, I’m glad there was time for some old fashioned exercise with the ol’ snow shovel - although I sure hope this is going to be it for awhile. The photo

Unsung

Well, the word was just delivered that tonight’s Tenebrae Good Friday service has been cancelled because of the blizzard.  It’s not a huge surprise except that I know how much Pastor Jeff HATES to cancel church.  He was especially anxious not to cancel Good Friday because we had to cancel Ash Wednesday - and losing

The second day of spring

This is an odd photo because it almost appears to show two different worlds.  To the left is the interior of our garage- to the right is our driveway - - - and if you look closely, you see a gallon-sized jug which gives you a pretty good idea of the monster snowdrift which formed
