Tour Guide

By |

Tonight was the first concert of the Carthage Choir spring tour - at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Waukesha- and I hope that the vast majority of the students realized at least to some extent that they were part of something quite extraordinary . . .  on tour with one of the country’s greatest choral

Juggling 3 Meat Cleavers & a Porcupine

By |

As I mentioned in my Tuesday entry, there are days at the radio station when it feels like I’m jugging three meat cleavers and a porcupine - blindfolded - and today was such a day.   It started at 730 when I welcomed Jeff Neubauer into the studio-  he’s the husband of Lisa who was recently

Goodbye Boston M

On my way home from the Bill Novak funeral, I decided to get the healthiest quick lunch I could - which would be at Boston Market,  which has been one of my very favorite places to eat since deciding to lose some weight.  I usually get the 8 oz. roasted turkey dinner, plus their garlic

A Stepson’s Song

Today was the funeral of Bill Novak, the tenor in my church choir who died of pancreatic cancer this past weekend. It was a neat service distinguished by three beautiful eulogies- one by a stepson of Bill’s, one from one of Bill’s fellow realtors, and finally Kathy’s dad talking about Bill’s involvement with the barbershop

“Sir, I have Ed Koch on the line for you.”

Sometimes life at WGTD is a little bit sleepy when all I have to do is hit play on my morning show tape, play a couple of CDs, read the weather a couple of times, and check my email.  Piece of cake.  Then there are days like today when I feel like I’m juggling three

This afternoon was the second presentation of “How Sweet the Sound: A Celebration of Music in Story and Song” - a program which my dad and I first did back in June at Holy Communion, in collaboration with Caritas and with this ever- evolving group of Chamber Singer alums that I now call Musici Amici

A Splendid Problem to Have

By |

I spent a little over five hours this afternoon at the Racine Theater Guild with director Doug Instenes and choreographer Kate Zavada listening to callback auditions for “Guys and Dolls.”  Two and a half weeks ago, the sign up sheet for auditions was quite sparse and it looked doubtful that we could do the show

Birthday Girl

By |

This is Bobbi, our two-year-old Golden Retriever.  She reached that milestone on Wednesday,  but it’s only now dawning on me that if we were talking about a human daughter, we would have just entered the Terrible Two’s.  And considering how lively and challenging the first two years have been, the thought of Bobbi going through

4 Again

Well,  as much as I already loved Brett Favre,  I love him even more after today’s press conference.  He was the epitome of graciousness today, as I knew he would be, and he did a remarkable job of trying to put into words the overwhelming emotions which he was feeling as this extraordinary era drew
