With all of this talk about Handel’s Messiah, I thought it would be fun to revisit this blast from the past. This is me singing the big recitative and aria from the Advent/Christmas portion of the work: “Thus Saith the Lord …. But Who May Abide …. For He is like a Refiner’s Fire” from Luther College’s Messiah performance in the December of 1981 (my senior year.) The legendary Weston Noble is on the podium. This sure brings back amazing memories of that incredible performance, which – by the way – featured a lineup of soloists that was entirely from the class of 1982 with one lone exception (a sophomore named Samm Wilson.) The other 13 soloists were all my classmates. We were quite a group, if I do say so myself!

Hey Greg, beautiful! So many memories. By chance is there a way to get a recording from 1984? I was tenor soloist – comfort ye and every valley. I’ve lost the tape I was given. Merry Christmas! – Chuck Peterson ’85
I wish I knew. I have this because they made a double LP of this particular year, and I took this directly from the record. I do know that back in our day, a recording was made every year (somewhere, I have a cassette tape of the 1979 Messiah- my sophomore year) but I have no idea if those are archived somewhere or not. Actually, it might make sense to float that question on Facebook and see if anyone can shed light. I hope for your sake that the answer to your question is YES!
Beautiful Singing Greg! Merry Christmas to you from Prague!
Thank you! And Merry Christmas to you, dear Nancy! I think of you so often- and we miss you at Carthage!
