This is one of the most precious mementos I have – because it’s one of my only singing samples dating all the way back to high school. This is a snippet from Atlantic High School’s production of Jerome Kern’s “Showboat.” It’s interesting for me to hear how much I matured, vocally, between this performance (in the spring of 1978) and my senior recital in the fall of 1981. It’s also interesting to hear me contending with what was (by far) the hardest song for me in the score, with its cruelly high range. For my Magnolia, Amy Nichols, it was a piece of cake ….. as you’ll hear.
