This is a portion of the interview I recorded with a legend in music education here in Southeastern Wisconsin-  Henrietta Welch, who was 100 years old at the time of this conversation.  (This coming Christmas she will turn 102.)  Here are a couple of ways to think about what it means to be 100 years old.  She was born when Woodrow Wilson was president.  She was born before there was radio broadcasting.  She was born before anyone had heard of George Gershwin or Aaron Copland.  She was born when Enrico Caruso was in the prime of his career.  She was born before the First World War.  Think of what she has seen and experienced in her long and extraordinary life.  It’s difficult to fathom!

We talked about her career as a teacher (which began by teaching in a one-room school house in northern Wisconsin – and finished with a 36-year stint in the Racine Unified School District) and her life as a musician.  Throughout the interview, I was absolutely flabbergasted at Henrietta’s razor sharp memory.  I’m also delighted that her spunk and sense of humor shown through.

The official Morning Show archive is housed on the station’s website,  wgtd.org.  It is there that you can listen to nearly all of the Morning Show interviews, in their entirety,  that have aired over the last several years.
